Where the City meets the Suburbs!
Fondly nicknamed "Westie" West Roxbury is located within the City Limits of Boston, but has a more Suburban feel filled with tree-lined streets and mostly single-family homes.
Its population of around 30,000 is steadily increasing with the appeal of easy access to Routes 1 and 128 along with many MBTA bus lines and the Needham Line of the Commuter Rail. Boston city residents enjoy a Residential Tax Exemption for their primary residence which is $1961.28 for 2016 and their children can test for the 3 prestigious Exam Schools - Boston Latin Academy, Boston Latin School and the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science which are part of the tuition-free Boston Public Schools. West Roxbury is also home to Roxbury Latin Academy and Catholic Memorial.
West Roxbury is bordered by Roslindale, Needham, Dedham, Newton and Brookline. Centre Street running from Brookline to Dedham is filled with shops and restaurants creating a "town" feel and just about every large store is available on nearby Route 1.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, Millennium Park on Gardner Street is a beautiful 100-acre dog-friendly sanctuary of 6 miles of paved hiking/bike paths, a canoe launch at the Charles River, athletic fields, playgrounds and picnic areas.
